How Do You Sleep After A Chiropractic Adjustment?

Sleep After A Chiropractic

Doctors, physiotherapists and chiropractors often recommend getting a chiropractic adjustment as a primary step towards having a quality sleep. A chiropractic consultation is extremely important for those who easily get tired or experience insomnia.

Most people visit chiropractors for treating chronic pains, lingering fatigue, musculoskeletal deformities, joint dislocations, and to improve muscle strength, flexibility, and range of motion. Many individuals seek these adjustments to address problems with their sleep, such as insomnia, delayed sleep, sleep apnea, and sleep anxiety. Studies and clinical trials have shown massive improvement in the onset, pattern, and quality of sleep in people who undergo several chiropractic sessions.

Most people feel tired and sleepy after a chiropractic session. It is a healthy sign and the body’s natural response to the adjustment. Chiropractors recommend getting a good (8-10 hours) sleep after a session to take the pressure off your nervous system and spinal cord. The right way to sleep not only takes the pressure off your body systems but also ensure proper re-aligning of your spine and long-term maintenance of the chiropractic adjustment. The following are the best sleeping habits you should follow after a session to maintain your adjustment outcomes.

Take plenty of water to flush toxins out of your system

As chiropractic adjustment aligns the joints and muscles, they get stimulated and release certain toxins in the body. Accumulation of these toxins can cause fatigue and tiredness. Water is one of the best detoxifying agents and helps flush toxins out of your system. Taking plenty of water following an adjustment is shown to relieve tiredness and boost sleep.

Don’t stop moving

Light physical movement is essential to avoid reversing your body to its initial position. Of course, you wouldn’t want this to happen. Activities like yoga, meditation, walking, and swimming are some useful physical exercises that encourage mobility and prevent your body from joint and muscle misalignment.

Avoid strenuous activities

While light physical activity is recommended, you shouldn’t be doing unmonitored or strenuous exercise that might cause a physical and mental breakdown. Avoid lifting heavy weights and doing heavy workouts that will eventually drain you of your energy right after the procedure.

Mind your body posture

An incorrect body posture can cause misalignment of the body tissues and reversal of the health benefits you get from a chiropractic adjustment. This is the reason why chiropractors recommend correcting your body posture before resuming daily activities following an adjustment.

Body posture also plays a crucial role in inducing sleep and maintenance of the chiropractic adjustment. Avoid slouching against the seats when you are driving a car, sitting in the office, or doing table work. Also, be careful of your body posture while standing or doing exercises.

Take out time to rest

Quality rest is equally important for a sound, quality sleep. It is essential as it allows your body to get regain strength, boost healing and find the sleep routine. Adequate rest, especially after the chiropractic session, plays an important role in coping with health-related issues such as disorientation, fatigue, and depression.
