Water is one of the essential elements of the human body. Our body is composed of almost 70% of water. All bodily functions such as chemical reactions, digestion, detoxification, kidney functions, circulation, and breathing depend on water.

You lose some water each day due to perspiration, breathing, and urination that must be replenished by adequate water intake. If you do not drink enough water, all vital organs cannot function properly, which can lead to serious health complications.

Keeping the body well hydrated is even more helpful for individuals who undergo chiropractic adjustments.

After the spinal alignment, the body needs some time to rebalance, and the patient should eat and drink healthily after the session.

In this blog post, you will know about the importance of drinking water after a chiropractic adjustment and the health problems that may happen due to dehydration.

The following are the main reasons to drink water after a chiropractic adjustment:

To align the vertebra in place:

How your body responds to a chiropractic adjustment is dependent on the water level of your body. The connective tissues and the ligaments in the spine need water for strength and overall flexibility.

If you don’t drink enough water after adjustment, your body ligaments will lose strength and elasticity due to dehydration. As a result, the body will no longer hold the vertebra in place and causes you to return to your chiropractic professional.

To remove toxins from the body:

Chiropractors put your body in proper alignment by reducing tension and stress in the spine. After the adjustment, patients may feel some mild adverse effects such as fatigue, dizziness, nausea, and headache. Due to the movement and stimulation of bones and muscles, toxins that have been building up are allowed to release in the body.

Drink adequate water to remove these toxins from the body. One of these toxins is the lactic acid that accumulates in the muscles. If the lactic acid is not properly flushed out from the body, it may cause fatigue, tiredness, discomfort, and pain.

Keeping the body hydrated will also help you to reduce the chances and length of adverse effects related to a chiropractic adjustment.

To prevent problems with dehydration:

Dehydration is a body condition when the level of water in the body drops from normal levels – due to insufficient intake or excessive water loss. Your body needs to heal up after the chiropractic treatment. It needs sufficient water intake, and if you do not consume plenty of water, it may lead to dehydration.

Health complications that may arise due to dehydration:

  • Fever
  • Dry skin
  • Dizziness
  • Constipation
  • Headache
  • Fatigue
  • Dry mouth
  • Nausea
  • Decreased urination

According to the World Health Organization, adults should consume 1.5-2.5 liters of water per day. During pain, stress or inflammation, sufficient water intake becomes crucial to health to avoid health complications. Therefore, chiropractors advise drinking a minimum of 8 glasses per day after an adjustment.

Wow, I never knew that chiropractic adjustments can help you get rid of toxins from your body very easily. That could be exactly what I need to make myself feel refreshed and ready to take on the holiday rush that my family usually experiences. Once I find a chiropractor in the area, I’ll ask them for an adjustment like this to get my body back in gear.
