What Are The 4 Tendons Of The Rotator Cuff?
The rotator cuff consists of four tendons, each attached to one of the four muscles that help stabilize and move the shoulder joint.
4 Tendons & The Muscles They Correspond To
-
1. Supraspinatus Tendon
- Muscle – Supraspinatus
- Function – Assists in lifting the arm away from the body (abduction) and stabilizes the shoulder joint.
-
2. Infraspinatus Tendon
- Muscle – Infraspinatus
- Function – Helps rotate the arm outward (external rotation) and provides stability to the shoulder.
-
3. Teres Minor Tendon
- Muscle – Teres Minor
- Function – Works with the infraspinatus to rotate the arm externally and stabilize the shoulder.
-
4. Subscapularis Tendon
- Muscle – Subscapularis
- Function – Rotates the arm inward (internal rotation) and stabilizes the shoulder joint.
These tendons work together to stabilize the shoulder joint while allowing a wide range of movements, including lifting, rotating, and reaching.
