What Injuries Do Chiropractors Treat?

what do chiropractors do

Chiropractic manipulation is an alternative and safe procedure in which chiropractors apply a sudden yet controlled force to an affected cervical or spinal joint using their hands or a small instrument. This technique is also known as spinal manipulation, and it aims to improve the movement of the spinal cord, restore balance, and enhance the optimal functioning of your body.

The most common injuries or body conditions for which patients seek chiropractic care include low back pain, neck pain, sciatica, scoliosis, and headaches (tension headaches and migraine).

Neck and Lower Back Pain

In today’s busy life, a majority of people experience some sort of neck or lower back pain due to workload or constant straining. Although several home remedies, medications, and surgical interventions are available, they can have side effects or are expensive or dangerous for delicate structures like the neck. When it comes to relieving pain in the neck or back, chiropractic manipulation is one of the most effective, safe, and popular treatment options available. Studies have shown that this technique helps to realign the displaced joints and bones, help restore the balance and reduce your neck stiffness and back pain.

Scoliosis

It is a condition in which there is a congenital or acquired curvature in the spine that causes abnormal posture, joint pain, and a reduction in your range of motion. There are only a few non-surgical treatment options available to treat this condition, that too, with poor prognosis and complications. Chiropractic care combined with physiotherapy, on the other hand, has proven to treat and prevent scoliosis. The effectiveness of these adjustment sessions varies from patient to patient depending on the age and overall health; however, it is still a viable option.

Sciatica

Sciatica refers to the stabbing pain caused by a damaged sciatic nerve in the affected leg. Sciatica pain radiates from the lower back (buttocks) down to the ankle and foot. It causes severe pain that can reduce the range of motion.

Chiropractic manipulation of the hip joint can help relieve the pain and inflammation by reducing pinched nerve and repairing the damage. Studies show that removing pressure from the sciatic nerve is an effective method that helps reduce the severity of the pain, restore the range of motion, and decrease the number of painful days the patients had.

Headaches and Migraines

People who have been injured in an automobile accident often experience extreme muscle pain and stiffness that limit their ability to function normally. The headache and discomfort can be a serious problem, in addition to other injuries. If the headache is not alleviated by your family doctor’s care, visiting a chiropractor can be a wise decision.

Chiropractic treatment is appropriate for automobile accidents. According to a 2011 study published in the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics, chiropractic was founded as an effective pain reliever for car accident patients.

Chiropractic treatment includes spinal adjustments to help relieve tension and stiffness in the cervical joints – which often causes pain in the form of delayed headaches and migraines. Spinal manipulation is used to treat several auto-accidents, and it can often immediately alleviate unpleasant symptoms. Subsequent treatments are usually recommended for full healing of the body.
